Training

All training sessions and consultations are custom made to meet your and your dog’s goals. We train on a one-on-one basis at various locations depending on your dog’s progress and training needs. It can be in your home, at a nearby park, and/or other locations determined prior to the session. The first session, the Introductory Session, will be conducted at your home. We want to evaluate and get to know your dog in his/her home environment before putting together the individualized plan. We will also discuss you goals, specific issues/problems and training methods and you will be given some advice and/or training tips to work on until our next session. The Introductory Session lasts approximately 90 minutes and is mandatory for new clients.

Functional Obedience
Unless you teach him, how is your dog supposed to know what you expect of him? The Functional Obedience sessions are designed to create a bond between you and your dog, as well as establishing the household rules you want for your dog. You will learn how you and your dog can live happily and peacefully together, while meeting each other’s needs.
Depending on the number of sessions you have signed up for (please see Rates for packages and pricing), we will go over and work on basic commands and behaviors, including but not limited to, walking politely on leash, sit, down, stay, and come. We will also discuss and practice leadership skills as well as socialization. You will also be given homework to practice between sessions as well as handouts.

Puppy Basics
These sessions are much like the Functional Obedience sessions, but they are adapted to “puppy level”. In addition to working on basic commands and household rules, we will also do a lot of socialization. Other topics may include house breaking your puppy and “puppy proofing” your house.

Trail Obedience
Hiking with your dog can be a most joyful activity – you and your dog traveling together on the trail, enjoying great exercise and breathtaking scenery. In this program we will work on trail etiquette and commands that are particularly useful on the trail. We will also discuss what precautions to take to ensure both you and your dog will enjoy the great outdoors safely.
This program requires basic obedience skills.

Consultations

A New Dog or Puppy?
Are you thinking about having a dog or puppy join your family? Before bringing that cute pup home, there are many things to consider to ensure both you and your new family member will live a happy life together. While a canine companion can be a wonderful addition to your family, it is also a huge responsibility.
We can help you determine what kind of dog will suit you and your family the best. During this consultation we will discuss your expectations and your lifestyle, as well as some breed traits to find out what dog or puppy would be the best choice for you. You will also be provided with written materials to refer back to in your decision making process. No introductory session is required.

A New Baby?
You’re expecting a baby, and now you are worried how your dog is going to react to the newest family member. While most dogs adjust to new babies quite easily, preparations will certainly make your baby’s arrival smoother for both you and your dog.
During these consultations, we will discuss your needs and expectations, and work on preparing and desensitizing your dog to the new arrival. We will also discuss practical issues such as handling both your dog and baby on walks, as well as how to provide your dog with proper exercise now that you will have less time for him.
You will receive written materials to refer back to before and after your baby’s arrival. No introductory session is required.

Other issues?
Please feel free to contact us for any other specific issue you may have with your dog, such as barking, jumping, and unruly behavior.

Please note that at this time we do not take on any aggression issues. We will, however, be happy to refer you to someone who can help you.
